Busy-ness

I have a feeling June will be a hectic month. Will the classes starting, SC stuff to handle, my own plans, work etc. Yeah so, forgive me if I keep saying NO to your invitations, everyone.

God, I don't feel like going back to college. I wonder where's my inspiration, I need it to take on all the work I have to do, which is kind of annoying and at the same time, stressful.

Just see what happens this week.

If we could make it through the night we'll see the sun."

Dumplings & Dragon Boat

端午节 (Dumplings festival)
The tradisional Chinese festival is just around the corner. Rice dumpling are selling everywhere. My grandmother made a lot for me to eat, yea I just ate one. Haha.

Known as Zong Zi in Chinese, contains glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves to form a pyramid shape.

Inside contains red beans, salted egg yolk, a small piece of pork, chestnut, mushroom, or simply without fillings.

There's a history behind this festival. This festival is widely celebrated amongst the Chinese, to pay respect to the patriotict poet, Qu Yuan.

Qu Yuan

The legend involves a really long and complicated throne-fighting war and political history. But to make a long story short: Qu Yuan was an important minister back in Chu Kingdom in ancient China. He had been known for his loyalty for the emperor of Chu, and loved his country greatly. However, His Majesty had not taken Qu Yuan's advice seriously, and he eventually got himself trapped and captured in a foreign land by his enemies, which then lead to his own death.

Sad and angry at the corrupted, dying Kingdom, Qu Yuan tied himself to a big rock and threw himself into the River of Puo Luo. The people then made rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves and threw them into the river. They believed this would stop the fish from eating Qu Yuan's body. Some would even row down stream in a boat, beating drums and shouting out loud in the hope to scare the fish away (it was believed that it is how the Dragon Boat event is related to the festival.

Dragon Boat Competition.

Since then, the 5th day of the 5th month in the Chinese calendar has been set as Dumpling Festival to remember the incident. Although there were versions of legends and stories that indicate Duan Wu has existed way before Qu Yuan's death, the tradition still carries on.

The Climb

I don't fancy Miley Cyrus. But this song rocks.

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming but
There's a voice inside my head sayin,
"You'll never reach it",
Every step I'm taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Got to keep trying
Got to keep my head held high

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing,
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes they knock me down but
No I'm not breaking
The pain I'm knowing
But these are the moments that
I'm going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I,
I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on,

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

Keep on moving
Keep climbing
Keep the faith baby
It's all about
It's all about
The climb
Keep the faith
Keep your faith

Yo people, I'm back at Nike.

After two long weeks for not reporting back to work, I finally went back on Friday. Managed to catch with new stuff with friends around there.

So I did this instead:

Jay Chou's talent

I've always been fascinated by how talented the man is. His piano skills can make my mouth fall open. Just ignore the way he sings, I never liked it either. But if you listen carefully his music, they always have a meaning behind both the music and lyrics. And if you listen carefully enough, you can tell by the way he composed the music and the way the music is perfectly arranged are dead damn good until you have nothing bad to say about his talent.

And some people are just refused to actually take a look at his skills and only know how to bad-mouth him.

If you consider yourself have a "good taste" in music, you should already know Jay Chou's talent.

Upon watching the movie The Secret, which directed by the man himself, the piano battle scene is the most unforgettable one.

And believe me, the piano battle it's not fake. You can tell by the veins of their hands move.

Jay Chou vs Yuhao Piano Battle

*Note that the guy in black suit is Jay himself. And if you don't know, Jay Chou is actually Yuhao's "sifu".

There are also several good songs from him. Not all that I fancy. I only fancy those reallly good ones. Those songs are no ordinary, if you listen it yourself, you will understand what I mean.

My top 10 favorite songs from Jay Chou

1. My all-time favorite, Yi Fu Zhi Ming (In Father's Name)

Who would think of putting a religion in a song? Who would think of putting a prayer as the opening of the song? Notice a woman's screams? Who would ever think of that? Simply amazing. As for the lyrics, as a chinese-educated myself, the lyric are just too hard to understand.

2. Ye De Di Qi Zhang (Twilight Chapter Seven)

For some reasons this songs reminds me of Jack The Ripper. I love the opening of the song very much. Impressive. And the lyric reminds me that no wonder Chinese language is the toughest to learn.

3. From the Jet Li movie called Fearless, the soundtrack. Huo Yuan Jia (Fearless)

In this song, you will notice some traditional chinese musical instrument. And believe it or not, it's all composed by Jay himself and he knows how to play traditional instruments (those instruments can take ages to learn).

4. Qian Li Zhi Wai (Beyond A Thousand Miles)

The traditional instruments used in this song is just simply prefectly arranged. And take note that the lyric are not straight-forward at all.

5. Zhi Zhang Zhi Shang (Wounds Of War)

I always think to myself that if I ever learn to play the piano, I'd learn this song. For sure. Listen to the opening, extraordinary right? At the bridge, the way the piano music changed is simply awesome! Where on earth you can find such song like this?

6. Dong Feng Puo (East Wind Breaks)

Combination of piano and some traditional instruments? Who would thought of that? My favorite song to sing. Listen to the music which connects the chorus to the second verse, I cannot figure out that instrument is that. The pluck string traditional instruments used here is called PiPa. Looks like this:

Some of you know that there was once he named one of his album after his own mother.

7. Ye Qu (Nocturnes) from the album November's Choppin.

There was once my indian friend told me how much he loved this song, see? even other race also know about his talent!

I personally love the opening and the chorus. Reminds me a death of a loved one. I've seen someone played this song on a piano, and I went like WOW.

8. Fa Ru Xue (Hair Like Snow)

Basically the rain sound as the opening and another traditional instrument used are simply terriffic.

9. San Nian Er Ban (Third Year, Second Class)

Anyone love Ping Pong, you'd definitely love this. Who would thought of putting ping pong in a song? Yeah, I know Enrique Iglesias one also got ping pong song, but this Jay's song came out officially wayyyyyy long before Enrique's one. And when I was still in atheltics, this song always remind me not to give up.

10. Wai Po (Maternal Grandmother)

He loves his grandmother so much until he composed a song specially about her. And there was once he even brought her to attend his award ceremony. This song tells you about the loneliness of old people. Notice that his very own grandmother is in the video.

One of the quote I love most from this song. "Cousin said don't be sad of losing, this is just a game. If grandma says his songs are good, that is his real encouragement." quote by Jay's cousin herself in the song.

You can hate all live concerts. But Jay Chou's concert you can never want to miss because he always bring surprises in his live concerts. Don't believe me? Go Youtube it yourself.

Bookaholic!

I was at Carrefour with Ame to do preparation for our bazaar tomorrow. We came across this book clearance. RM5 per book!

Being such a bookaholic, and piles and piles of books for me to choose from, of course I was turned on.

So we spent about like 20 minutes browsing through the books..

I already chose 3 books.

Two best-selling novels in a book. The Ransome Women by John Farris & The Things They Left Behind by Stephen King.

The Blood-Dimmed Tide by Rennie Airth.

The Murderers' Club by PD Martin.

Upon taking the 3rd book, Ame said we'd better get going before I end up taking all the books home. LOL

WOW. So many books waiting for me to read! Weeeeeeeee!

MUET @ SEGi Kota Damansara (Part 2)

Today, I captured a lot more pictures than last time. Got more time to fool around the campus after the 1/2 hr test. I don't want to talk about the test anymore also lah, zzz.

Me and Alice realized that KD campus is more to nature. Our Subang campus too high-tech don't even have plants, only fake ones. No need to water.

We discovered the Dandelions for the first time there and we played with it lol. Beautiful.

And this usual plant that I don't know the name, finally someone like Alice can actually show me the correct way how to taste the juice of the plant, because all this while I've been doing it wrongly =) Sweet lol.

And then when we went outside of the campus, we discovered the other side full of water.

Outside of the student lounge. You can see water, the only place in Subang campus with water, is just a wall with water flowing down and also another one outside.

Another fountain:

God, this place is humongous.

Then when we went to the guardhouse to wait for our cab, took several shots again.

Some say it looks like a palace. Some say it looks like mosque. Well I said it looks like Putrajaya.

That's the end of our "campus tour". Alice and me went The Curve after that. It was only 10am. Time passed so slow.

We bought the same statement Tees writing " Trust me, I'm A Girl." Mine is black, hers blue. Then I finally found this shirt!

It was all so random. I was telling Alice about this ambigram shirt while we were browsing through the Tees. Then out of the random, I saw it on the maniquin. LOL

We moved from The Curve to Cineleisure to Ikano and finally IkEA. While at Ikano, we went to the pets shop. I still remember how to parrot turn its butt to face Alice when she said hi to it. LOL arrogant lil thing.

Managed to take only the fish.

That striking pink fish looks outstanding.

I still cannot forget that Golden Retriever. Haha.

After all that fooling around at IKEA, which we stole a tour catalogue, FiFi picked us up then go yumcha at KJ.

That's it for a day. Damn tiring. Like what Alice says, everything is so unexpected today LOL.

Signing out.

Ciao.

New wallpaper for the month of May

Still feeling distracted by the crying.

The sorrowfulness at home here is giving me a headache.

My head's exploding.
Oh for God's sake, woman, please stop crying!

You're not the only one who feel sad seeing Grandpa like that!

And Old Woman, if you have so much complain about taking care of Grandpa, then just might as well don't do it!

You don't have to cry and complain and ruin our family lunch together!

And please don't show us your "oh-so-cham" face like we don't know how you feel.
